DRL is an industry leader in diagnostic services for Johne’s disease in New Zealand, and the inhouse Johne’s diagnostic tool, the Paralisa™ test, has proven its strength in combination with commercially available ELISA tests. Increasing test sensitivity allows farmers to identify animals in the earlier states of disesase (subclinical), and implement management strategies to reduce the financial and production impacts of Johne’s.
The importance of prompt identification and removal of MAP shedding livestock is recognised and endorsed by DairyNZ, JDRC, and Johne’s Management Ltd as the single most significant and immediate step towards reducing JD impact on affected farms and limiting spread of further infection.
In this study, test sensitivity data for two serological ELISA test (IDEXX and Paralisa™), considered both singly and in combination, for a range of shedding threshold cutoffs determined using quantitative PCR in a dataset comprising 1,069 matched faecal and peripheral blood samples submitted to DRL for routine Johne’s disease diagnosis.
